Hawaii Pacific University - English Language Programs
The English Foundations Program (EFP), in the beautiful, friendly and safe city of Honolulu, offers English courses to international students and professionals from over 45 countries. The EFP has been serving international students with English language needs since 1974, and is one of the top five largest ESL programs in the USA.
The EFP offers courses from beginning through advanced levels in all language skills. The focus of the rigorous curriculum is on academic English skills in listening, speaking, writing, research, grammar, note-taking, and reading. A variety of elective courses in Business English, Pronunciation, Vocabulary Development, English through Music and Drama, enhance student choices.
Students who successfully complete the EFP courses receive automatic entrance into an undergraduate degree program at Hawai‘i Pacific University (HPU). A TOEFL score is not required. Up to 12 credits of advanced level EFP may be used toward an undergraduate degree at HPU. Qualified students may enroll in courses in degree programs while they complete required EFP classes;
Most EFP students are preparing for university study at HPU. Others are exchange students on a study-abroad term. In addition, some international professionals take EFP courses to advance their career positions.
